Kumiko Hayashi is a Japanese-American filmmaker, activist, and medicine woman, best known for her work in environmental conservation and Indigenous rights. Born in Tesuque, New Mexico, Hayashi is deeply committed to exploring and preserving the cultural traditions of Indigenous peoples. Her notable documentary, The Roots Awaken, follows her journey through the Andes and Amazon Rainforest, collaborating with over 15 Indigenous tribes to highlight their environmental struggles and the importance of cultural preservation. Through her films and activism, Hayashi strives to raise awareness about the urgent need for environmental healing and the importance of cross-cultural collaboration. Her work earned her the Cosmic Sister Emerging Voices Award in 2020, a recognition of her dedication to empowering Indigenous communities and preserving ancestral knowledge.

At the World Peace Gathering in July 2025, hosted by Kindred Spirits Ireland, Kumiko Hayashi will bring her powerful deep spiritual presence. With the grace of a bridge-walker between worlds, she will offer perspectives that invite collective healing, ancestral remembrance, and a return to right relationship with the Earth. Her voice will echo the wisdom of the forests, rivers, and elders – calling us to awaken, listen, and walk gently together in peace.
